failing the curve

Woke this morning to a sound like an ocean liner crushing a ferry. A Ute had failed to take the curve, or had inscribed a larger arc that included a small sapling, a concrete fence, a short wall, and wooden gate, the front left of my car, and the back of my neighbour's car. Then rest.

Two 20-nothing girls, laughed hysterically at their survival, alienated the ambulance men, and the police - were aghast as they sobered to realise that the silver bonnet they had climbed out on to had been mine. And I was still talking to them. The driver, taken away after befriending only my dog, cursing everyone who tried to suppress her into taking it even more seriously. $70,000 she owes now, licence lost for two years. It all changed at 6:15am in a small suburb with large curves.
