i've just been reading about the distinction between self-enhancement vs self-insight today. Thinking on the bright side and the rose-tinted specs view of oneself vs realising that that's how you'd like to say it was (but know better). It called to mind two pieces of poetry (and I use the term lightly) that were on wall plaques around my house as a child. One was irrelevant to the theme above but I'll tell you anyway: it was "Don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out of it alive". The other was more relevant and it took me years to work out what it meant:
