to see oursels

i've just been reading about the distinction between self-enhancement vs self-insight today. Thinking on the bright side and the rose-tinted specs view of oneself vs realising that that's how you'd like to say it was (but know better). It called to mind two pieces of poetry (and I use the term lightly) that were on wall plaques around my house as a child. One was irrelevant to the theme above but I'll tell you anyway: it was "Don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out of it alive". The other was more relevant and it took me years to work out what it meant:

From memory - enter Rabbie Burns
O' wad some po'er
the gift tae gie us
to see oursels
as ithers see us

it wad frae muny (sp?) a blunder free us
an foolish notion...

The Worms' Author - more and more

You can "see" the man himself (William Sutton) in the roles of Campbell Lawless and Sheridan Groggins on his publisher's website which is currently hosting an exciting 7 minute video book trailer. The trailer also features some of the other main characters from this truly excellent book!
